This article will go over some tips for when to consider calling your baby’s doctor when your baby is sick or when your baby has a cold and what kind of information to have readily available when talking to your doctor.

Establishing a good relationship with your baby’s doctor before she gets sick is important so you can have a good understanding of how to communicate with the doctor at a time when you need their attention the most. Most doctors are very busy and have only a little time (if any) to communicate with patients who don’t have an appointment. You can often call the advice nurse at the doctor’s office and she can help guide you about next steps or she will take a message and talk to the doctor when she’s free.

It is also a good idea to get a list from your doctor at a well-baby check up with which sick baby symptoms warrant calling the doctor about. These might include a high fever for several days, non-stop crying, vomiting or loss of appetite. If you have a premature baby or an infant with other health issues, then your doctor may have a special set of instructions for what to watch out for when your baby has a cold.

Having a sick baby can be stressful and if your baby isn’t sleeping well when she’s sick, then chances are you will be tired as well. Tracking baby’s illness symptoms, temperature and medication when she’s sick will be helpful not only for identifying when there have been significant changes as well as being able to report to the doctor and answer any questions he might have.

Doctors appreciate information such as baby’s current temperature, how much she is eating and drinking and how many wet diapers she has had each day. Fewer wet diapers than usual might indicate baby is not getting enough liquids.

When you do call your doctor, keep the following in mind:

1. Know what questions you want to ask before you call.
2. Be able to provide a concise and explicit list of the symptoms you are concerned about and how long the symptoms have lasted.
3. Don’t expect the doctor to automatically prescribe medication or ask to see your baby in the office. Listen carefully to the doctor’s instructions and ask any additional questions to clarify what the doctor has said.
4. Don’t be afraid to provide feedback. Doctors and nurses can get busy so sometimes it might seem as though they don’t feel your baby’s illness is as serious as you do. It’s okay to gently and tactfully remind them if you feel as though you haven’t got the attention or information that you needed.

Have all the things needed before starting to undress the baby.

An infant quickly loses body heat, so it is important that the room is warm and that there are no drafts from open windows or doors. A wall thermometer is useful. A bathinette or a plastic tub three-quarters full of lukewarm water should be placed within arm’s length. Also needed are a small bowl of warm water in which there is a squirt of liquid bath soap; two small sponges; cotton balls; cotton swabs; disposable wipes; baby oil; soap; shampoo; lotion; talcum powder; a fine-toothed comb; a bristle hairbrush; and a baby comb. A waterproof apron is also required, preferably one with a Turkish toweling surface, together with several soft, absorbent towels for patting the baby dry; a fresh diaper; diaper pins; plastic pants; and a set of clean clothes.

Newborn babies heartily dislike face-cloths. Until the baby is one month old, use moistened cotton balls or disposable wipes to wash his or her face. Afterward, use one of the sponges for the face and the second sponge for the buttocks area when a soiled diaper is removed.

Most babies have diaper rash at one time or another, usually caused by prolonged contact with stools and urine. A physician will recommend an ointment to get rid of the rash. Diaper rash can usually be prevented by spreading on a little petroleum jelly in the diaper region after the baby’s bath, and by checking the baby’s diapers often and changing them when needed to avoid prolonged contact with urine and stool.

Dry skin is common among newborn babies. Baby oil, gently massaged into the skin, can relieve the condition. But test the oil first on the baby’s ankle to make sure that there is not an allergic reaction.

Cradle cap, a patch of yellowish, greasy crusting on the baby’s head, should be treated at bath time. After the baby is nursed, massage some oil into the scalp and leave it for several hours until the next meal. By then the scaling should be easy to lift with a fine-toothed comb. At bath time, shampoo and rinse the baby’s scalp and dry carefully. Brush the baby’s hair.

Throughout bath time reassure the infant by speaking softly. A newborn infant is frightened by loud noises and quick, jerky movements and responds by crying.

Handle the baby gently when dressing him or her. Babies much prefer being undressed.

Clothing should be simple to slip on and take off because the baby may be crying and perhaps stiff and rigid from exertion. Loose clothes with snap fasteners are preferable to clothing that has to be pulled over the head.

The Bath. In the early weeks, bath-time may take longer than anticipated because both parent and baby do not know quite what to expect. As soon as a routine is established, the baby will feel more secure and tolerant of handling.

Make sure in these early days that the room and bath temperatures are kept constant throughout the bath-time. For the first six weeks, the temperature in the room should be 70-75 Fahrenheit degrees (21-24 Celsius degrees). After six weeks it may then be 65-70 Fahrenheit degrees (18-21 Celsius degrees). The bathwater should be kept at 100-104 Fahrenheit degrees (37-40 Celsius degrees), slightly higher than normal body temperature. Keep a pitcher of warm water near the bath to top off the bathwater should it cool down too much.

Be kind to the baby; handle him or her with warm hands; speak softly in a soothing voice.

Most babies love being in the water, but hate coming out of it; they cry, showing signs of insecurity and shivering. The baby should be wrapped immediately in a towel and held tightly for a moment. This helps a baby to relax again. Now slowly start to dry the baby, either on your lap or on a changing mat. Be sure that a soft, absorbent towel covers the plastic mat before you lay the baby on it. Now gently open the towel in which the baby is wrapped and pat dry with a second towel. Always try to keep covered the parts of the body that are not actually being dried.

When the baby is dry, you may apply ointment to the diaper area if you wish, and then begin to dress the baby. Put on the undershirt first to keep the body warm, then the diaper, and finally the nightgown. All this time, the baby may be impatient to be nursed. But do not let loud complaints distract you from what you are doing.

Your baby has the most delicate, sensitive skin there is. When you need something to help take care of that skin, and keep it healthy, you don’t want to reach for just anything. Due to the sensitivity of baby’s skin, most products can really irritate it. It’s best to go with something all natural, and perfectly safe. This is why so many mothers are turning to Shea Butter. It is all natural, safe for baby’s sensitive skin, and protects your baby’s skin from a number of different things.

Sun Protection

Too much exposure to the sun is unhealthy for anyone, especially your little one. The damaging UV rays can really be bad for baby’s skin. Also, too much sun exposure can lead to sunburn, which is bad enough for adults, but can be miserable to a baby. Shea Butter contains a natural sun screen which will help protect your baby’s skin from the sun. While it is doing this, it also keeps your baby’s skin soft, hydrated, and healthy. Rub some on your baby’s skin before you go outside and rest assured that his or her skin is safe!

Diaper Rash

We all know how bad diaper rash can be. It looks terrible, and can be really painful for your baby. Most of the time, diaper rash occurs at night, when wetness is trapped close to the skin for an extended period of time. With the acids in urine, it doesn’t take long for diaper rash to develop. When possible, allow your baby to go without a diaper in order for the skin to breathe. Also, rub Shea Butter on your baby’s skin to protect it. There is natural latex in Shea Butter which is not irritating, but provides a protective barrier for your baby’s skin, keeping moisture out. Remembering to rub it on at night will keep your baby drier, and will not allow the wetness to reach your baby’s skin.

Baby Massage

Many parents utilize the many benefits of baby massage. It is a bonding time for mother or father and baby to play, talk, sing, or laugh. It also does great things for your baby. When you are participating in baby massage, try using it to make it even better. When it absorbs into your baby’s skin, so does Vitamins A, C and E, essential fats and acids which keep the skin healthy, and other great nutrients which promote healthy and happy skin!

Shea Butter is amazing for so many different things, that it is a must for mothers. It is one of the few things that you can feel safe with, because it is all natural and safe for babies. If only a mother could rely on more things like Shea Butter!

If this involves your child, health details are probably the most important stuff you need to give consideration to. If you’re a new parent, you will find most likely plenty of little tips and methods that you’ll soon learn. But, to obtain began, listed here are three important items of information concerning kids health which you may not have access to known before.

Keep the baby warm, although not too warm

Dr. William Sears, a parent of eight children along with a practicing doctor for more than 3 decades, recommends new parents constantly. He states that lots of parents keep their baby too warm. A youthful child need not attend a temperature much greater than room temperature. Over-bundling your son or daughter may lead to numerous health issues – foremost, getting too hot can result in the disruption of the baby’s nerve systems. This might cause your child to prevent breathing in order to slow breathing to the stage where brain damage might really occur.

It’s also wise to make sure keep the baby in a constant temperature. A baby’s brain doesn’t react well to abrupt alterations in temperature. So, during the cold months several weeks when it’s time to take your child outdoors in to the cold, you need to bundle them up inside to permit themselves warmth to produce a barrier towards the cold. In the same manner, throughout the summer time it is best to be conscious of taking your child from an aura conditioned home out in to the warmth.

Consider using baby massage

Baby massage techniques happen to be employed for centuries throughout different cultures all over the world – but, still it remains a few of the least known baby health information in modern The United States. An infant massage may be the simple act of rubbing and rubbing your child very lightly with love. A Ten minute massage a couple of occasions every week will truly assistance to strengthen parents-child relationship. Children need touch nearly as much as they require food, so setting a while aside to lightly massage your child is a terrific way to make sure they are feel at ease with you and also relax them simultaneously.

Try swaddling

Swaddling describes covering your child from mind to foot having a small blanket. Swaddling has been utilized in nearly every culture and it is really making some headway nowadays in this baby health information age. Swaddling does a great deal to help nurture the connection that the parent has using their child. However, it’s some additional benefits too. Swaddling helps you to regulate children’s internal body’s temperature also it just helps make the baby right into a cute little package!

You are able to securely swaddle your son or daughter until they’re four several weeks old. If linked with emotions . get a bit squirmy, you are able to free their arms and provide them a bit more room to maneuver. However, chances are that the baby will get accustomed to swaddling rapidly and revel in being so in your area.

Possibly you haven’t heard about these baby health information tips, however i claim that you consider them a little further. You could request for advice or the aid of a midwife or perhaps a doctor. The end result is that you ought to discover what your child really needs and make certain they have it.

In 2005 my spouse Melanie delivered our beautiful twins Jack and Lilly. Like the majority of parents we desired to do all we’re able to to insure our children would develop as healthy as you possibly can. This brought us to begin researching organic baby items. They are items created using natural materials. They’re free from harmful and potentially harmful chemicals present in other baby and children’s items. A few of the organic items we’ve used are highlighted below:

1) Clothes, blankets, and towels created using organic cotton or Bamboo.

2) Toys made from wood which are either colored having a natural dye or otherwise colored whatsoever.

3) Plush organic cotton toys.

4) Baby product free from toxic chemicals for example Phthalates, which might cause developmental problems, and irritate a baby’s skin.

5) BPA (bisphenol A) free bottles for babies.

6) Shampoo free from any toxic chemicals.

7) Organic baby food.

 Organic cotton cloth diapers.

As Melanie and that i began discovering about most of the dangers that are available in conventional baby items, we made the decision to make use of natural baby items whenever you can. I was alarmed at a few of the things we discovered.

Any product created using non-organic cotton will probably be laced with residual chemicals in the manufacturing process and in the pesticide sprays accustomed to grow the cotton. Clothes, towels, bedding along with other items can continue to contain harmful amounts of these toxic chemicals despite repeated laundering.

Conventional baby creams and shampoos can contain many chemicals that may irritate a baby’s skin, cause breakouts, and become harmful for his or her health. Most of the elements in non-organic baby creams and shampoos haven’t been examined through the Food and drug administration or other government agency. A few of the harmful chemicals that might be present are 1,4-dioxane, a known cancer leading to agent, and Phthalates that could cause reproductive and developmental problems. The producers are frequently not needed to list out each one of these chemicals around the bottle.

I was shocked to understand that traces of pesticide sprays along with other chemicals, utilized by maqui berry farmers to develop large crops, are located in many non-organic baby meals which contain fruit or veggies. The Food and drug administration enables this and states safe levels are allowable. We feel the only real allowable level is zero. We thought it was alarming that cows are often given anti-biotics and growth the body’s hormones, traces which make their distance to the milk babies drink. We switched to organic milk to insure these harmful chemicals didn’t make their distance to the milk our twins were consuming.

Besides the health advantages of organic baby items there have been additional reasons we made the decision these were the best choice for the twins. Clothes produced from organic cotton and bamboo tend to be much softer than conventional cotton and for that reason convenient to put on. Our daughter, Lilly, has very sensitive skin. Before we switched to any or all organic clothing, she was always getting breakouts. After switching to any or all organic clothing her breakouts disappeared and she or he was convenient. Lots of people think that organic toys be more effective for any child’s imagination and for that reason learning. These kinds of toys are simpler than many conventional toys without many of the moving parts and noises. This can lead to less distractions for that baby.

One more reason we made the decision to make use of organic items is they are great for our planet. The harmful chemicals accustomed to grow non-organic crops and manufacture non-organic items eventually understand into soil, water, and air. These chemicals frequently kill wildlife and plant life and poison water supply. Organic baby items present no such dangers towards the earth.

Using organic baby items has given we satisfaction. We all know we’re safeguarding are precious children in the many dangers contained in some conventional baby items.

The most trying time for new parents is night time. Often your child will stay up all night or only sleep in little bits at a time. Baby care can be difficult for new parents and there are some skills parents must use to keep their sanity. The most important skill in taking care of a baby is being able to put him/her to sleep through the night so you can get some sleep. Stressed out over tired parents tend to not provide the best baby care.

I have three children and was able to have each of them to begin sleeping through the night at two weeks old. I was new to babies, I am the youngest therefore never had to take care of any babies. Friends and family would always provide baby care pointers and some of them had merit while many of them were just nonsense.

One pointer I received to have my children sleep through the night was to put a little bit of whiskey in their bottle. This, of course, is absolutely absurd and I would never follow this baby care technique…. Neither should you. This is how I got all three of my children to sleep through the night beginning at two weeks old.

1. Have a Consistent Bed Time Schedule

Babies, like children crave schedules. It’s important to them and makes them comfortable. All parents that I know who have babies that do not sleep well do not have a set bed time. An important baby care pointer is to always put your bed to bed at the same time every single night. If you are out and about, put your baby in a quiet area and put them to sleep.

2. Have a Consistent Bed Time Routine

Again, babies require routine. If you give your baby a bath every night, make sure you do it around the same time every night. If you give your baby a bath every other day… be sure to do it every other day. Always read your baby a story before bedtime. This is a great baby care pointer because not only does it introduce reading to your baby, it also begins having you set the habit. It also, of course provides a baby care routine.

3. Adhere to a Feeding Schedule

Most infants need to be fed every 2 – 3 hours. Now, I understand 2 or three hours is not a good night sleep for you or your partner and you’d be right. But feeding your baby on a consistent basis throughout the days show your baby that food is always available and they will begin to know when to expect it. Always make sure you feed your baby 20 minutes before bed time.

4. Playtime Before Feeding

Baby care is much more than just caring for your baby. It is also stimulating and teaching your baby. Playing with your baby about 30 minutes before that last bottle will help wear your baby out and teach them coordination.

5. Putting Your Infant To Bed

Here is the most difficult baby care pointer to stick with. Putting your infant to bed, especially if you rare a first time parent, can be difficult. They will cry. It is okay for a him/her to cry and many doctors believe it is good for their cardiovascular system. Do not go and grab your baby. You are showing you care, by trying to establish a schedule. If baby cries for more than 20 minutes, time it, go and check your baby’s diaper. Swaddle him/her nice and snug and leave them room. A nice tight swaddle will make your baby feel secure.

If you follow these baby care pointers on putting your baby to sleep you and your baby should begin sleeping through the night in no time.

What baby care tips are essential for you and your newborn??

The mother of a baby is the busiest person on earth, and these baby care tips are designed to put a little order and routine back into your day to day routine. In no time at all, these baby care tips will become second nature for you and your baby helping you to get back to a somewhat ‘normal’ life.

Breastfeeding Baby Care

There is, has and always will be a lot of controversy on breastfeeding depending on where you live in the world. In some countries it’s the norm and most people would not bat an eyelid if they saw a mother sit down in a restaurant and start to breastfeed her baby. In other countries such as the UK and the US, surprisingly and quite sadly, breastfeeding is frowned upon by many. I personally breastfed both my children and though I made a point of being discreet, I valued my right to feed my child where, when and how I chose to.

However, I also appreciated the fact that I was lucky to be able to breastfeed as I know many mothers want to but can’t for whatever reason. Even those that choose not to breast feed should not be maligned. The majority of us live in a society where we have a freedom of choice and whatever our feelings or opinions on a matter, we should allow everyone the right to choose what is best for them and their baby.

That said it is common knowledge that there are huge health benefits to breastfeeding for both mom and baby so that’s why this is key to baby care. Baby’s first drink of breast milk is colostrum which is full of antibodies which help babies immune system and is full of fat and protein to help baby put on weight in their first few days. Breastfeeding also helps mom’s uterus to contract more quickly. A weird sensation when it happens but utterly amazing when you think about it.

Then consider the other positives of breastfeeding to baby care. Milk is on tap, ready to go at the right temperature whatever the time of day and if baby emptied one ‘bottle’ or boob, there was another ready and waiting to go. I did co-sleeping with my second baby as I was concerned about waking the house up in the middle of the night for feeds which worked out well for all as most times throughout the night, she would latch on herself and feed without me being barely aware. Baby care doesn’t really get any easier than that.

I did express so that my husband could also be involved and there were times that he did the night feeds with both children so that I could get a complete nights rest.

Bottle Feeding Baby Care

If you are bottle-feeding your baby then make sure that the bottles are well sterilized and clean. There are many makes of bottle sterilizers that are available. There are some that you can put in the microwave and some that will continually sterilize throughout the day so that you always have clean bottles and teats available to go when you need them.

Also consider your formula well. Check the ingredients and look for those that have the friendly bacteria for the gut. Make sure that you buy the formula appropriate for your baby’s age. To rich and it may cause constipation, too thin and lacking in vitamins etc, and your baby may not gain weight as they should.

Baby Sleeping Baby Care

With your first child, you will have probably read numerous books about how to put your baby to bed and have bought a moses basket, then a cot or cot bed. Come your subsequent children, you then realise though nice to have, the most important thing is whether your baby is comfortable, safe and warm or cool enough. My first child went into his own cot bed when he was 3 weeks old as we couldn’t stand anymore of his warthog snoring. He was also in a baby sleeping bag. Our daughter slept with me in our bed until she slept through most of the night before moving to her own bed. Especially as I was breast feeding both, I made sure that I didn’t drink a lot (the odd glass of wine at a weekend is fine), I don’t do drugs, they weren’t too hot or cold and the room was well ventilated. Use your common sense here regarding baby care and use and do what’s best for you.

Clothing Baby Care

Summer clothes should be light cotton ones. When baby is taken out, make sure that his head does not get the direct sun. Make the most of parasols or stroller sun covers. The covers in particular also help against wasps. An important baby care tip to remember for all – sun cream is essential even if your baby is dark skinned. My children are mixed race and even with factor 50, they still tan.

In winter, there may be sweaters, trousers and other woollens. Just bear in mind that if they are in nappies or diapers still, you need quick and easy access to change them especially when you are out and about. Some changing facilities are tiny or cramped and you don’t really want to spend more time there than you should. Remember a change of clothes too. My son was the worst but they both had explosive poos the force of which sent their poo right up their backs and it was far easier to take the whole lot off than to try and clean around it!

Changing Baby Care

Changing of nappies or diapers whether disposable or not should take place regularly. Sometimes babies will let you know in their own particular way but it’s best to get into the habit of checking their bottoms at least every 3 hours. That way you’ll soon get to know baby’s toilet habits and can adjust it accordingly.

Bathing Baby Care

I hope that I don’t sound too patronising but the best advice here is common sense. Make sure that you have everything that you need BEFORE you start bathing. Have baby’s towel ready on his changing mat, his nappy and night clothes all in place before you start.

Please ensure that the bath water is not too hot and not too cold – 9of or 32c is ideal. It should only be a couple of inches deep if it is in a family bath. At this age baby doesn’t need bubble bath, just gentle no-tears formula soap should suffice.

Ensure that you support baby’s head safely. Once washed and dried, massage a little moisturizing cream into baby’s skin and get him dressed for bed.

Immunisation Baby Care

The baby should be immunized against Small Pox & Measles with BCG within 3 months of its age. The first DPT (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Psertussis, Polio, HIB, Meningitis C) is due within the first 2 months followed by the 2nd and the 3rd one at one month intervals. The MMR vaccination against Measles, Mumps and Rubella should be done within 1 years of age. The boosters should be taken after the baby is 4 years old.

Training and Education Baby Care

Babies learn by watching and listening. Yes I babble baby talk to my two but I also talked sensibly to them like an adult. When getting them dressed I would put their left arm in its sleeve and say to them, ‘let’s put your left arm in your sleeve’. By 18 months both children knew their right from their left, could say things like open door, shut door, roof, bus, sky drink, biscuit etc because I constantly read or pointed things like this out to them. Learning can and at this age, should be fun.

The most important baby care tip of all

The parents should find enough time to spend quality with the baby but also together and by themselves. Find time for baby time, couple time and me time!
